President Extends Condolences to Respected Inuk Elder

On behalf of the Nunatsiavut Government and Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement, President Johannes Lampe today extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of respected Nain Inuk elder Louisa Kojak, who passed away on Tuesday, June 14 at the age of 73.

“Ms.Kojak made tremendous contributions in helping to promote and preserve Inuktitut, having worked many years with both the Labrador Inuit Association and the Nunatsiavut Government in an administrative role and as an interpreter/translator. She provided administrative support during the process leading to the establishment of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement and played a significant role as interpreter/translator. She also helped in the development of the Inuktitut material to be used in the provincial education system. She was well known and respected in her home community of Nain and throughout Nunatsiavut and beyond. She will be sorely missed, but fondly remembered by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.”

Funeral services will take place this week in Nain.
