Nain TaKuaKautik Food Bank

The Nain TaKuaKautik Food Bank opened up in January of 2018.

Brenda Jararuse is the Chair of the committee for the Nain food bank.

This food bank is one more way to improve food security in our community.

Jararuse says this Food bank is given to families who have low income, who need food to provide for their families in their homes.

In 2017 the Nunatsiavut Government did a survey that was released in May 2017, and they found that 79.4 per cent of residents in Nain were food insecure, meaning they experienced worry about or difficulty in accessing food on a regular basis.

This month the food bank will be open a day earlier for the food distribution.

She says on Wednesday October 30th, 2019 is when the food distribution will be held.

One day earlier than usual because of the Thursday October 31st, will be the Halloween holiday.

Jararuse says orders must be in by Monday October 28th, 2019.

And intake forms can be picked up at the Clinic, Nunatsiavut Government building, Family Connections Staff, and the Nigivik Centre.

Orders can be made by placing your name in the blue boxes at the Nunatsiavut Government office or the Nain Post office, or by calling the toll free number at 709-700-4739.
