Makkovik First Annual Berry Carnival

The community of Makkovik will be holding their first annual Berry Carnival this October.

We spoke with Lindsay Andersen the Community Economic Development Officer at the Makkovik Inuit Community Government.

Andersen says they received funding from the Makkovimmiut trust fund.

This carnival will be held on Saturday October 5, this day will be a fun filled day of planned activities, and free of charge to everyone.

This is a great way for residents to celebrate the fall season and the end of the fishing season.

Activities planned will be games for children, a community supper and a 19 plus dance to finish off the festivities.

During supper there will be a baking contest any traditional berry dessert can be entered with a $100 first place prize.

And a fashion contest for the King and Queen is sponsored by the Torngat fisheries co-op.

They are looking for a king and queen of Torngat fisheries, Prize will be donated by Torngat Fisheries of a 30 pound box of crab each.

Andersen adds that she is looking for volunteers to help out with the games and supper and helpers for in the kitchen.
