ITK AGM Adjourns in Inuvik

The Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami Annual General Meeting concluded in Inuvik yesterday.

During the ITK AGM on Wednesday, August 15, delegates discussed progress and achievements from the 2017-2018 fiscal year. They also discussed and decided on a number of issues and initiatives including:

  • To work with the federal government to support the development of Federal Child and Family Services Legislation.
  • Approved the establishment of a working group with representatives from the four Inuit regions to guide work around an Inuit-specific equivalent to Jordan’s Principle.
  • Implementation of the National Inuit Suicide Prevention Strategy.
  • The Inuit Crown Partnership Committee and the commitment to continue work on shared priorities.
  • To establish a task group comprised of representatives of Inuit regions and Inuit Circumpolar Council (Canada) to review and develop a proposal to amend the ITK and ICC (Canada) by-laws, including elections procedures.

For the first time, the proceedings of the ITK AGM were live-streamed, creating greater transparency for those wishing to observe Inuit leaders’ discussions in real time.
