Award-Winning Volleyball Player Grace Tuglavina

An accomplished local athlete has just received a major national scholarship to help in her studies in the heath care field.

Award-winning volleyball player Grace Tuglavina, a recent graduate of Lake Melville school in Northwest River, Labrador is the winner of the RBC Indigenous youth scholarship.

The scholarship will provide Tuglavina, and each of 19 other recipients across Canada, with $10,000 dollars per year for up to four years to complete her studies.

Close to 800 Indigenous young people were considered for the annual award which recognizes strong academic performance and community involvement.

Tuglavina competed with Team NL Eastern elite volleyball, and team NL Indigenous at the North American Indigenous games.

She was named Lake Melville school’s female athlete of the year in 2021 and in 2020 received the school sports NL scholar athlete award.

She also won Gold at the 2021 Labrador, Western and Central Newfoundland Virtual science fair, as well as the Cenovus Energy Indigenous scholarship and the marine institute award in 2022 for a project on changing ice patterns in the North.
