Hopedale RCMP Tournament Starting Today

The 33rd Annual Hopedale Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Tournament will be starting this evening at 6 pm.

Constable Chris Atwell of the Hopedale RCMP is one of the main organizers at the detachment.

He says there are 14 female teams and 10 male teams.

Constable Atwell adds that there are teams from Nain, Natuashish, Hopedale, Makkovik and Sheshatshiu.

A ten dollar fee per person was required to enter the tournament to pay for the awards.

Constable Atwell says that first place winners in both divisions will receive jackets, while 2nd and 3rd place finishers will receive medals.

Atwell adds that there will also be awards for Most Valuable Player and Most Sportsmanlike Player.

The RCMP Tournament is being held at the Nanuk Center; throughout the events there will be a canteen, and some meals for sale to offset operating costs.

The semi finals and finals will start on Sunday April 23rd, 2017.

We will have the results for you on Monday.

Good luck to all the volley ball players.
