Fire Flattens Mother Wood Timber Mart in Happy Valley-Goose Bay

A business in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL was completely flattened by fire early Wednesday morning, as firefighters remain at the scene trying to contain the flames.

Firefighters responded to the Mother Wood Timber Mart, on Kelland Drive, around 3:00 a.m.

The building is a complete loss, and firefighters are dousing nearby warehouses in an attempt to keep the flames from spreading.

Fire Chief Brad Butler said when crews arrived the building was already engulfed in flames, so it was a priority to try to contain the fire and keep people away.

A warehouse further away was able to be saved, but a loader was also destroyed.

There’s no word on the cause of the fire, but there are no injuries.

When it’s safe to enter the building, RCMP investigators will work to determine the cause.

The building, constructed in 2013, is currently on the market, and listed for just under $4.5 million.

At this time, RCMP are calling it a suspicious fire.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP at (709)-896-3383.
