Telephone Scam Reported in Nain

A Nain resident has warned OK Radio that there’s another telephone scam on the go.

The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, reports that he received a call from someone claiming to be with BMO Security.

The resident was informed that someone was attempting to withdraw money from his BMO account.

The caller then asked for the resident’s account number and password.

The resident was later told by other Nain residents that they also received similar calls from someone claiming to be with BMO Security.

The RCMP would like to warn the public to be aware of fraudulent phone calls.

The RCMP further advises that you should never give out personal information, including account numbers, passwords, or any financial information to unknown callers.

Financial institutions would not be calling people asking for personal or financial information, as they already have it on file.

If you receive a call that you think is a scam or fraudulent, you are advised to contact Phonebusters at 1-888-495-8501.
