NL Moravian Churches Upcoming SYNOD

The Moravian Church of Newfoundland and Labrador holds a meeting of delegates and board members every four years called a SYNOD.

Sarah Jensen is the Chairperson of the Moravian Church.

She says the meeting will take place in Hopedale this year from Friday, September 30 to Saturday, October 1.

At the SYNOD, there are representatives attending from the four churches of Happy Valley- Goose Bay, Makkovik, Hopedale and Nain.

Jensen says delegates and board members are elected out of the chapel servant body within each community.

This year, the meeting will take place in Hopedale, and three representatives will be present from each community.

She says a delegate, a board member, and a Lay Minister/Minister will attend.

The Board of World Mission Liaison, Loren Jendro, will also be attending.

But Bishop Paul Graff will be absent due to other commitments.

However, in the near future, he will visit each community.

Jensen says this year’s discussions will include election of a Chairperson, and any additions or changes to the Book Of Order (Rules of the United Fractrum).

As well as a review of the Book on Christian Living regarding conduct of Church Chapel Servants and their Lay Ministers or Ministers within their Church.

There will be a talk on sustainability within their churches, how they can move forward and become sustainable to upkeep their churches without outside funding.

There will also be financial reports from the Province and the four churches, along with a report on how each church is doing.

She says the four congregations also bring their concerns or requests to the SYNOD for discussion.

Jensen asks that you keep them in your Prayers during this meeting.

She adds may God’s presence and guidance be with them throughout.

God bless each and every one of you.
