Research of George River Caribou (Audio)

A recent satellite imagery of the George River Caribou herd shows that the herd had moved from its calving ground and summer range use.

Allan Brett Campeau is a student in biology in Laval University in Quebec City.

He says he has been working as a research assistant with Torngat Secretariat this summer.

Campeau has held two presentations on what or how the George River Caribou herd has declined and is still declining.

He says the GRC herd has moved further east then previously shown, partly as a result of the amount of food available, and studies have shown that they sometimes degrade their own habitat by eating too much.

Campeau says the satellite shows the calving and summer range have increased in size since the early 1990’s.

He added he was using satellite imagery of the data from research that has been collected.
