Johannes Lampe has been sworn in as the 3rd President of Nunatsiavut.

A swearing-in ceremony took place at the Nunatsiavut Government boardroom this morning at about 10:30 am.

A packed, standing-room-only boardroom was overflowing with people there to witness the ceremony.

Outgoing NG President Sarah Leo gave a speech first, congratulating Johannes Lampe on his new position.

Nain Elder Rita Andersen then conducted the swearing-in ceremony.

The new President gave a speech afterward.

Two Inuktitut hymns were sung during the ceremony as well.

Lampe said he believes that today is a good day for many people.

He was pleased with the large turnout, and the strong show of support he received today.

He added that he feels that people have been waiting for someone to communicate to them in both Inuktitut and English, and to receive a message from a new leader.
