A one day symposium in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement and the establishment of the Nunatsiavut Government will bring together Labrador Inuit and academic researchers in conversations around different forms of leadership.
“Traditions of Labrador Inuit Leadership: A Dialogue” will take place in Nain on December 2, at the Pulâpvik Community Room, Parks Canada Building, from 10 am – 3 pm.
Looking back on the past and focusing on the future, the conversations will explore: individual leadership roles, as exemplified by historic figures like Abraham Ulrikab; collective leadership, the lead to the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement; women’s leadership and the many forms it takes in community life; and the language and identity in Inuit Labrador.
Presentations will be in the form of a conversation between community leaders with lived experiences and academic researchers who have explored these topics.
There will also be opportunities for general discussions and input from all in attendance.
The symposium will be open to the public at no charge.
However, advance registration is encouraged.
Simultaneous interpretation/translation services (English/Inuktitut) will be available. Lunch will be provided to participants.
