Quebec Hiker Rescued Near Nain

On Wednesday September 2nd, 2015, at approximately 12:35 PM, Nain RCMP received a report that a 49 year old man hiking from Quebec to Nain had activated his emergency beacon approximately 25 km west of Nain.

Search and Rescue efforts were commenced and support was received from Fire and Emergency Services NL.

Air Support arrived in the area, but due to the weather and rugged terrain, they were unable to reach the man.

Further support was sought from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and a Cormorant Helicopter was dispatched to the area.

Weather was hampering efforts to attend the area, but shortly after 7:00 AM this morning the man was safely removed from the area by the Cormorant Helicopter.

He was transported to Happy Valley-Goose Bay for medical treatment.

The RCMP is very appreciative of the support and assistance provided by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and Fire and Emergency Services NL.
