The Peer Support Sharing Circle

A new support group is being offered as a land based place for healing in Happy Valley Goose Bay.

This support group is aimed at anyone who wants to seek help with personal issues, addictions, and recovering from trauma.

And to help anyone who suffers with mental health issues to move forward and support one another.

This support group is titled “The Peer Support Sharing Circle”.

Denise Cole and Derek Montague are the organizers.

Both are hoping this new peer support group will help themselves and others to live a healthier life.

We spoke with Denise Cole.

She says this support group will give more opportunities to help one another to seek help.

Help with personal addictions; help to find their inner strength, helping those that are having hard times and troubles, and those who have a mental health issue.

Cole says being on the land and away from your problems is the best way to relax and find healing.

And also to enjoy the outdoors.

This support circle is for anyone that wants to find healing by gathering to support one another.

She says they are getting a good reaction from the public.

Montague and Cole say the first outing will be this Saturday January 31 at 1pm.

They plan to hold boil ups, sharing circles, and to support one another.

She says Nunatsiavut DHSD has provided a tent that can hold 10 people, along with a woodstove.

The outing will be held on the skidoo trail behind the El Greco restaurant.

Cole says they had a small grant from Labrador Grenfell Health.
