Makkovik News

The community of Makkovik is waiting on final inspections on their new Fire Hall.
Terry Rice is the Chief Administrator Officer for The Makkovik Inuit Communty Government.

Rice says that inspections will be this week.
A grand opening will be held in the beginning of February.
Rice says they don’t have staff manning the fire hall.

The fire fighters that service the community are all volunteers from Makkovik.
The funding for the fire hall came from the Nunatsiavut Government’s Tasiujatsuak Trust.

Rice added that a water treatment center will be ready to be used by the residents of
Makkovik in the first week of February.

He says that this will be purified drinking water.
90 percent of the funding for the water treatment center came from the provincial government.

The Nunatsiavut Government provided 10 percent.
Rice added that the project was managed by MICG.
All local people were hired to do the construction, which began in 2013.
