HICG Distributes Wood To Seniors And Single Moms

The Hopedale Inuit Community Government has distributed fire wood to some seniors and single moms in their community.

We spoke with Jim Tuttauk, the AngajukKâk of HICG.

The fire wood was given to those in need by local volunteers.

Big thanks go out to Conservation Officer Ian Winters, Ordinary Member Greg Flowers, and to Dougie Rose and Thomas Onalik, who helped distribute 2 Kamotik loads of wood.

Tuttauk says they have a similar program to the Going Off, Growing Strong program and are trying to organize something similar to distributing wood to those in need.

He adds it gets harder each year for those who don’t have snowmobiles or can’t afford to go on the land, due to cost of gas or other reasons.

Tuttauk says he will look into doing something to help those in need, by starting a program, or to find a source to start up something like this.

Even if it’s just one or two boxes of wood each week.
