Message from Carlene Palliser, who is the Ordinary Member with the Nunatsiavut Government in Rigolet:
I contacted the general manager of Nunatsiavut Marine Incorporated, Gary Latimer, about whether or not the Northern Ranger will start on June 25th and whether or not it will be servicing communities it can access, here is what he said:
Nunatsiavut Marine Incorporated does not decide which communities get serviced and which ones do not. We follow the schedule as per Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Ranger will not or has not previously left Lewisporte until there is a good chance of servicing all the communities.
In the meantime NMI has commenced accepting freight at Goose Bay and Lewisporte for the coast.
The Ranger has occasionally stopped at Black Tickle and Rigolet on its first trip into Goose, but it is up to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to make that call.
Once we get a clearer picture of a departure date, we post it on our FB page, website and we will do a short press release as well.
