Trans-Labrador Highway washout

Heavy Rains Leave Southeastern Labrador road cut off due to a Washout.

People in Labrador say it was a crazy rainfall over the weekend as a portion of Route 510 on the Trans-Labrador Highway has washed away.

A large swath of pavement, about 18 km from the Churchill River, is missing this morning.

That cuts the flow of traffic between southeastern Labrador and the rest of the Big Land, including Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Transportation and Works staff remains on site assessing damage of the washout on the Trans-Labrador Highway.

Crews will be able to make complete assessment as water recedes.

Crews from the Department of Transportation and Works are on the scene but there is no timeline as to when temporary repairs will be made.

Motorists advised to avoid the area as highway is impassable.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
