Teachers’ Organizations across Atlantic Canada and Nunavut are coming together to outline the challenges educators are facing across the country.
In honor of World Teachers’ Day, the council of the Atlantic Provinces and Territory Teachers’ Organizations, which includes Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nunavut have issued a joint statement to call on the government to meet the needs of educators.
They say that the importance of teachers have been highlighted by the pandemic, however, it has also exacerbated the issues teachers face.
With a teaching shortage and a lack of support staff, they say many students will not have access to rich educational experience. As well, they are calling increased mental health supports for teachers facing stress under the conditions.
