Stabbing in Goose Bay

A 38 year old woman was arrested and charged following a stabbing in Goose Bay Wednesday.

RCMP said they were called to a home on Lethbridge Street at 12:20pm.

A man who was found injured inside the home was transported to St. John’s where he remains critical but in stable condition.

Police said they arrested Joyce Haye a short time after the incident at a nearby home.

She appeared in court on Thursday to answer to the aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police said residents can expect to see an increased police appearance in the area as the investigation continues.

TaKuaKautik Food Giveaway

The TaKuaKautik Food Bank will be doing their giveaway this evening.

The doors to the Warehouse will open at 5pm until 8pm.

There is a limit of one bag per family, if there are two or more families living in a household, each family can have a food bag.

If you have a large family, let the volunteers know and they can add some extra items to your bag.

If you would like a bag, please come by to pick it up or arrange someone to pick it up.

Seniors and those with disabilities can ask for deliveries if needed.

Five COVID-Related Deaths

The number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are down, but the provincial government is reporting five new deaths due to the virus yesterday.

Hospitalizations reported yesterday are down to 17, the first-time hospitalizations due to COVID have been below 20 in a number of weeks.

Yesterday, there was 93 new confirmed COVID cases reported, and 114 from Tuesday.

Recertification for First Aid

SmartICE are offering to re-certify previous youth trainees to get their first aid.

Rex Holwell Jr. is the Northern Production Lead.

Holwell Jr. says there are five spots available if any former trainees would like to get their first aid.

The training will begin on Friday, May 6, 2022.

Avian Bird Flu

The Nunatsiavut Government, Provincial Department of Fisheries & Land Resources & Environment, and also the Climate Change Canada are working closely together on the Avian Bird flu.

As of March 3rd, 2022, the H.A.P.I bird flu have been confirmed in wild birds in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.

This influenza virus is contagious to humans, on rare occasions could cause diseases to humans. Careful cleaning of hands, clothing, and equipment are asked to be practiced to prevent the spread of the flu.

James Tuttauk & Jim Lyall (Audio)

Ordinary Members are chosen from the constituencies of Nain, Hopedale, Postville, Makkovik, Rigolet, Upper Lake Melville and Canada.

James Tuttauk is campaigning for Ordinary Member for Hopedale.

He says there’s a lot of items that need to be addressed, such as the housing, the Trans-Labrador Highway and a few more.

Jim Lyall is an Ordinary Member of the Nunatsiavut Government in Nain.

He says there’s a couple of things that are important that they need to continue to work on.

Nain Easter Events

The Nain Recreation Department had a giant radio Easter bingo yesterday

Today, Wednesday, April 27th is the last day for Easter events.

There will be an awards night up to the Jeremias Sillitt Community Centre starting at 6pm.

There will be a family firework show down to the Nain Harbour starting at 8:30pm to end off the events.

Air Fryers Recalled

Health Canada has issued a recall on certain models of Air Fryers due to potential fire hazard.

Certain model numbers have been recalled because of they can overheat posing a potential burn and fire hazard.

As of last month, the company has notified 36 reports incidents involving air fryers in Canada, including one minor injury.

Another 68 incidents have been reported in the US.

Consumers who have an affected are asked to stop using the air fryers and return the unit through the original point of purchase.

Guy Lafleur Honored

Guy Lafleur Honored With Emotional Ceremony at Bell Centre.

It was the second longest standing ovation in Montreal Canadians History as the teams, fans and city honored the Great Guy Lafleur, who died on Friday.

Fans cheered for 10 minutes and 10 seconds prior to the Boston Bruins game on Saturday at the Bell Centre. One of those attendants was Noah Sheppard attending his third game at the facility.

He said the atmosphere was electric and that there wasn’t any dry eyes in the house by the time sat down. Boston won the game, but Noah said that was immaterial to most.

Normally, people are walking right up until puck drops, but Saturday nights seats was filled a half hour before game time.

Caribou and Muskox Meats Update

The Caribou and the Muskox meats have not arrived to Nain as of today.

But the meats have arrived to the other communities.

The meat was purchased by Nunatsiavut Government last month.

The Nain Community Freezer said they didn’t receive any calls when the meats will be delivered by Air Borealis a couple days ago.
