A round table, according the Nunatsiavut environmental protection act is a process that aims to involve community members in environmental decision-making by invited inuit to review a project proposal in advance, and then meet to discuss their views and knowledge, and seeking consensus with respect to the environmental effects of a project and advice for the Minister.

While the public is welcome to attend the roundtable, participants had to be selected in advance by the Minister.

As opposed to the public consultation meeting where every community member is invited to attend and comment.

Nain Wind Micro-Grid Project

October 17, at 1:30p.m in Illusuak and 7pm in the main NG boardroom.

Come learn more about the planned wind turbine development in Nain and share your views about the project and knowledge of the site and the surrounding environment, as well as potential impacts.

Both the proponent and the environment review team will be present to answer questions and gather comments.

Led by Natural forces and the Nunatsiavut secretariat (the proponent), the Nain wind micro-grid project is a plan to build wind turbine(s), battery storage and associated infrastructure in Nain to reduce diesel reliance for electricity generations.

During the consultation period you can also submit comments to your community liaison officer at the Nunatsiavut Government office in your community, or send them via email to environmentalreviews@nunatsiavut.com, until October 26.

Air Borealis Appoints Phillip Earle VP and Executive-In-Charge for the Airline

Phillip Earle has been appointed Vice President and Executive-In-Charge for Air Borealis.

In making the announcement, Air Borealis highlighted Earle’s 25 years experience in aviation management.

NL Vax Verify Application No Longer Available

The provincial government is terminating the NL Vax Verify application effective today (October 14).

The public can delete the application prior to official removal, as it is no longer required for business use.

The termination of this application is due to recommendations from public health that NL Vax Verify is no longer necessary in COVID-19 management in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Please note that the NL Vax Pass application will remain active for a few more months as a tool for residents to easily access and store COVID-19 vaccination records.

Supplement Programs

The food heating supplement program is still available through Nunatsiavut Government for people on the north coast communities.

But the heating supplement program does not exist anymore, including the gas and lube supplement program for hunters.

There have been lot of questions from people if those still exist. But its no more.

26th Annual Jobe J Volleyball Tournament (Audio)

The 26th Annual Jobe J Tournament will be held in Hopedale this year.

Georgia Abel is in charge of the tournament.

She says it will be held on November 11-13 at the Nanuk Centre.

The awards, trophies, medals and apparel for the tournament have been ordered.

Executive Director/Radio Producer Job Ad

The OKâlaKatiget Society has two employment opportunities for the positions of a full-time permanent Executive Director and Radio Producer.

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director co-ordinates all administrative and policy activity to ensure that the OKâlaKatiget Society meets its goals and objectives.

The Radio Producer prepares news, current affairs for daily broadcast on the Society’s radio network and the salary will be dependant on qualifications.

Foster Families Meeting

Lori Petersen, Social Worker for Foster Families in NL says they have changed the meeting time to 6pm tomorrow, Friday, October 14 as they know the President has a meeting at 7pm.

This meeting is for Foster Parents and community members who would like to learn more about fostering.

It will take place at the Pulapvik room. She says there will be snacks and prizes available. Children can also attend.

Update Avian Flu

The Canadian Food Agency announced to gardeners and farmers that all seeds imported and exported internationally, even for use in a small personal garden, need to be cleared with them. Some seeds could be invasive species or carry harmful plant pests, and must meet import requirements of the destination country.

Plant products that do not comply with criteria of the destination country are usually destroyed, and Canada is issued a notice of non-compliance.

You may check is out on local CFIA about seed export and import requirements before sending or receiving seeds internationally. Check it out on internet at bit.ly/3vdLivc.

Also, the Canadian Food Agency said that the Ontario Agriculture to help the spread of avian influenza in wild birds by reporting sick or dead birds to the Ontario Regional Centre of the Canadian Wildlife Health Corporation to call them at 1-866-673-4781.

Come Home for the Holidays

The provincial government has launched a contest to bring people home for the holidays.

The Department of Tourism Come Home for the Holidays contest will feature four grand prizes, to be announced over the course of four weeks.

To enter, participants are being asked to visit the Come Home 2022 website at www.comehome2022.ca and send an e-Card to someone they would like to bring home for the holidays.

A round-trip flight to Newfoundland and Labrador will be announced each week for four weeks.

Contestants must be residents of Canada who are of the age of majority in their home province.
