The Polar Bear hunting season opened on February 2nd, 2020.
We spoke with Todd Broomfield the Director of Renewable Resources with the Nunatsiavut Government.
He says there are a total of 12 licenses to be filled on the north coast and 5 of them has been harvested.
Broomfield says 5 licenses are now filled from Nain and 2 remaining licenses to fill in Hopedale with one polar bear being harvested.
No polar bears were harvested in Postville yet but have 2 licenses to fill.
He adds 1 license was filled in Makkovik and they have 1 remaining license to fill, and in Rigolet, there are still 2 licenses to be filled.
Right now, there are 7 licenses left to harvest and 5 licenses are now filled.
Broomfield adds that the hunting seasons will remain open until all 12 licenses are filled, and the harvesting season is open until June 30th, 2020.
