New Case Eastern Health Region

Newfoundland and Labrador’s COVID-19–free status didn’t last long.

The province has a new confirmed case of the virus- a woman between the age of 20 and 39 in the Eastern Health Region.

The case is travel-related. The woman is not a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador and was granted an exemption to travel to the province.

Officials say she arrived on a direct flight from Toronto on Thursday, August 6, and was not showing symptoms while travelling.

Contact tracing is currently underway and anyone considered a close contact is being encouraged to quarantine.

A challenge of the provinces travel ban is currently being heard in Supreme Court in St. John’s.
