National Indigenous People’s Day in Nain

There are activities ready to go for the upcoming National Indigenous People’s Day for Nain.

The events are going to be at the Nain Memorial Ball Park starting at 3:15 pm.

The Nain Brass Band, the Nain Moravian Choir, Beardos and the Little Drummers will perform. There will be door prizes to be won and an open mic for the public.

Here is the tentative schedule:

-At 3:15 pm, the day will start with an opening prayer
-AngajukKâk Joe Dicker will do the proclamation at 3:20
-The Nain Moravian Choir will perform at 3:25
-At 3:35, President Johannes Lampe will do a speech and cut the cake along with some entertainment and a community soup supper
-Inuit Games will be from 5 to 5:45 pm
-Door prize draws will begin at 6 pm

The Department of Language, Culture and Tourism, with the Nunatsiavut Government are also holding a virtual contest for National Indigenous People’s Day.

The contest will be for the communities of Nain, Hopedale, Postville, Makkovik and Rigolet only.

To enter, anyone can pick out a phrase from the post on Facebook and send a video of yourself saying the phrase in Inuttitut and in English,

Your name will be entered to win $150 worth of gas or a certificate for groceries, the deadline is on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 12 pm.

The videos shared may be used for their Language Blitz.
