Karen Andersen is Makkovik’s new Community Health Worker who filled the position in May 2023.
We spoke with her briefly on what events are happening in Makkovik, and some events that will are yet to come.
Andersen says that they work as a team to make all events possible. Some organizations that they partner with are NG, Public Health, RCMP, NLESD and Makkovik Recreation.
Makkovik has a weekly craft night, adult paint night and home visits to whoever is in need, directed to senior’s, single parents and people with chronic illness who are limited to getting things done.
Andersen mentioned a few activities they hold includes wellness for women, meals on wheels for men, taste testers, teen night, diabetes meal, senior’s dinners, kids club during school months and they also have a theme for each month.
This month’s theme for June is Child Development, they host a radio show every Wednesday and Thursday related to the theme of the month.
