Makkovik Christmas Gatherings

Traditional parades and large-scale outdoor ceremonies or events, including community fireworks and bonfires, are not recommended at this time.

Parades and outdoor ceremonies/events normally bring together community organizations and residents to recognize special dates, holidays or other observances.

Such large gatherings can introduce added risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Given the above recommendation of the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Newfoundland Labrador (CMOH) the Makkovik Inuit Community Government will be cancelling all of its traditionally sponsored Christmas events and will do these events virtually during this COVID-19 Pandemic.

Remember: People, Space, Time, Place.

• People: Interacting with more people raises the risk of spread of COVID-19.
• Space: The closer you are to people, the greater the risk of spread of COVID-19.
• Time: Risk of spread increases as people spend longer amounts of time together.
• Place: Indoor places are more risky than outdoors. Organizers should plan for situations and activities with the least amount of risk possible and individuals should carefully consider the risk associated with any events before they attend.

MICG would like to thank the public for your continued respect for the COVID-19 measures.

Together we can prevent the spread of this virus in our community.
