LATP Update

Leah Blake, is the LATP councillor based out of Nain. Blake updated OKaalaKatiget on some updates.

LATP just finished their very first round of Safety Training in Nain on July 14. It was held at the Atsanik Hotel boardroom, Dallas Mercer Consulting (DMC) held the training. Steve Reid was the instructor. It went very well, 10 applicants participated throughout the whole week from Monday to Friday.

DMC training was working on the certificates yesterday, there are a couple of applicants that still need to hand in their WHMIS tests, if you’re an applicant, you can drop by Leah Blake’s office before Friday, July 21 so you can receive a certificate.

Blake will be out of town for training from July 24 to 28th, so the office will be closed next week. LATP will also be discussing their next round of Underground mine training, which is scheduled for October 30, 2023. If you are unemployed or underemployed (on EI or income support), you can pick up an application at the LATP office or one can be emailed to you. LATP will also need a resume – which Leah Blake can help you with if needed.

It is a 5 week training program in Sudbury O.N, if you are interested please email or call Leah Blake, she will have her laptop with her, if you need to get a hold of her.

LATP also have funding available for various trade courses with the College of the North Atlantic, you can visit thier website at www.latp.ca to see which courses that are eligible for funding.

LATP are planning another open house in the near future, we keep you posted on the date. LATP will be visiting communities along the coast to do a couple of open houses in August, partnering with VALE.

More information is posted on their Facebook page for the Labrador Aboriginal Training Partnership.
Blake would like to thank DMC for coming to Nain to provide Safety training and the applicants who participated throughout the week. Great job to all who attended
