Newfoundland and Labrador Housing says they are on track with renovations to 9 housing units on Labrador’s north coast.
Lela Evans, Torngat Mountains District MHA, raised this issue in the House of Assembly during the spring sitting. Noting that she had been advocating for the units to be repaired for a couple of years.
NG Housing says that 2 of the vacant units in Nain, Nunatsiavut have already been completed with tenants already moved in, and others in the process of moving into the second.
Work is still underway on the other 5 units in Nain, Nunatsiavut and is expected to be completed soon.
There are 2 units in Hopedale, Nunatsiavut awaiting repairs as well. The NLHC says they are in the process of tendering 3 new units for the town, and part of that contract will be repairs to the existing apartments. That work is expected to be completed by the fall.
