We had a brief update from Natalie Lane, Language Program Community Worker from Hopedale.
Lane partners with Simeonie Merkuratsuk, based out of Nain, for Nunatsiavut Government’s word of the day, hosts Inuktitut Bingo twice a week, she will be starting Inuktitut classes for parents of school aged kids once a week with Doris Dicker in the month of June. She offers mitt making with Sarah Jensen, this will be starting this month, and they will gather names of who’s interested, starting with 5 names that will be chosen out of a list until they complete that list.
Lane also partners with other departments to include Inuktitut resources to the community of Hopedale.
Lane is currently seeking individuals to teach drum dancing to both adults and children, along with other cultural teachings such as skinning a seal and making pitsik. Lane is available to hold cultural related programming such as pitsik making, drum dancing and sewing once she has interest in teachers.
Keep an eye out in the coming weeks as Natalie will be having much more on the go in Hopedale.
