The Makkovik Heritage Forum for this year is starting today.
Starting this evening at 6:30pm, they will have a meet and greet at the Community Hall.
Tomorrow Friday, March 3rd at 9am, they will start with a greeting and opening prayer, followed by community sharing sessions on each of the communities along the coast.
At 10:30am, they will have Inuktitut Ilinniagumavugut – We want to learn Inuktitut, and then community reports on Rigolet, Upper Lake Melville, and the Canadian Constituency at 10:45am.
On Saturday, March 4th, Aimee Chaulk will talk about Them Days projects with Avanimiut book update with Lena Onalik and Andrea Procter; Traditional Inuit helping and early helping roles with Eddie Allen; Climate Change and archeology with Lena Onalik; Kajak: knowledge, culture, and a book with Andrea Procter, and Levi Nochasak joining by phone; Faces of Makkovik, 1890’s-1940 with Patty Way; and a Makkovik talent and fashion show.
On Sunday, March 5th, they will have another session of We want to learn Inuktitut, and then some results and recommendations on Heritage Policy Landscapes of Nunatsiavut, and a TCAR Funding Opportunities for Heritage with Jamie Brake, followed by Elders’ storytelling session.
At 11:15, they will have a closing forum and a farewell lunch at the arena.
