Community Freezer

The OKâlaKatiget Society has contacted all the communities freezers along the North Coast.

In Postville, we spoke to Shirley Goudie the Town Manager; she says they have Char, and a couple of fruits and vegetables.

In their Food Bank they have tea bags, sugar, milk, butter, coffee, spaghetti, macaroni, soup, oat meal, and cereal.

In Rigolet, Chelsea Shiwak is the Town Clerk; she says they have red berries, crab claws, shrimp, and cod.

In the community of Makkovik, we spoke with Marilyn Faulkner who is the Office Assistant; she says they have nothing in their freezer.

In Nain, we spoke with Liz Pijogge who is the Northern Contaminants Researcher; she says they have fresh char and seal meat.

Pijogge adds that the char will be shared all along the North Coast and to Upper Lake Melville.

And in the community of Hopedale, we spoke with Pamela Freida who is the Food Security Coordinator; Freida says they had a big donation from the Hunts River Camp supplies such as chicken, fillet cod, and beef.

And in their freezer, they have ducks, mattak, smelts, capelin, and smoked trout.
