Coastal Halloween Activities

The OK Society has contacted the coastal DHSD’s to see what they are preparing for their Halloween activities.

Jane Merkuratsuk is the Community Health Worker here with the Nain DHSD.

She says they will be taking names for the Window Decorating on the 30th and will be judging at 6 pm with prizes to be won, names won’t be taken after 4 pm.

The prizes for 1st place will be a $100 gift card from Northern, $75 for 2nd place, and $50 for 3rd.

In Hopedale, we spoke with Juliana Winters who is the Community Health Worker.

She says there will be a costume contest for the most original, funniest and scariest costume for youth ages 13-17 from 6-8 pm tonight with prizes to be won.

On October 28th, they will have a Diabetes bingo along with a Halloween Party for 50 years and up from 5-7 pm, and for ages 18-49 from 7-9 pm at the katingavik.

On October 29th, they will have a Halloween party for children ages 0-5 from 6-8 pm at the AHS building, and will also hold a Halloween party for children ages 6-12 on the 30th from 6-8 pm also at AHS.

In Rigolet, we spoke with Pam Campbell who is the mental Health and Addictions Worker.

She says they will have a Family Pumpkin Carving on Monday, October 28th at 6:30 pm at the Community Hall in partnership with the RCMP.

In Makkovik, they are starting off this Friday, October 25th with a family movie night at the DHSD building at 6 pm followed by a Haunted House at the arena starting at 8 pm.

Sunday, October 27th, there will be a community fire pit at 6 pm.

On Monday 28th, there will be a Family Pumpkin Carving at the DHSD from 6-8 pm.

Tuesday morning, October 29th, there will be a community breakfast at 7:30 am and a Halloween party at the Community Hall at 6:30 pm.

October 30th, there will be a Zombie Chase at 6 pm and will be meeting by the DHSD building.

And finally, on Halloween Day, October 31st, there will be a fundraiser for Alzheimer’s disease, serving cold plates.

In Postville, they also have some events ready and prepared for Halloween.

Vyann Andersen is the Mental Health and Addictions worker.

She says this Friday October 25th, she will hold a Family Pumpkin Carving at the Postville DHSD building starting at 6 pm and followed by that there will be ghost story-telling at 8:30 pm at the Rec Hall. Have to be grade 7 and plus.

On October 26th, there will be a Halloween potluck starting at 5 pm.

There will be treats awarded for anyone who has the most creative costume, the creepiest food, the dish with the most Halloween spirit and the cutest costume.
