Candidates Declared for May 1 Election for Ordinary Members- Electoral Officer Still Seeking Female Candidates

Nominations closed yesterday at 2 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time for candidates seeking election as Ordinary Members to the Nunatsiavut Assembly.

Elections will be held May 1, 2018 in the Constituencies of Nain, Hopedale, Postville, Rigolet, Upper Lake Melville and Canada.

Two seats are available in Nain, Upper Lake Melville and Canada, while one seat is available in all other Constituencies.

There will be no election in the Constituency of Makkovik, where incumbent Kate Mitchell has been acclaimed.

The LIST OF CANDIDATES is as follows:

Nain: Tony Andersen, Henry Broomfield and Jim Lyall
Hopedale: Greg Flowers, Charlotte Lucy-Piercy, James Tuttauk and Rachel Saunders
Postville: Tyler Edmunds and Glen Sheppard
Rigolet: Carlene Palliser and Charlotte Wolfrey
ULM: Belinda Andersen, Gerald Asivak, Roy Blake, Sharon Cormier, Marjorie Flowers, Rose Pamak, and Marlene Winters-Wheeler
Canada: Selina Adams, Edward Blake-Rudkowski, Lela Evans, Roland Saunders and Charlotte Winters-Fost

At the close of nominations, there were no female candidates in the Constituencies of Nain and Postville.

As a result, Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe has been contacted by the Nunatsiavut Electoral Officer, and will undertake to nominate a female candidate as per the Act.
