Day Two of CRA Strike

Another day of job action as Canada’s largest federal public service union and Ottawa remain at the bargaining table.

Federal workers hit picket lines yesterday after the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the government failed to reach a deal on a new collective agreement.

Many services are affected by the strike.

There will be reduced capacity for fisheries enforcement, aquaculture and invasive species work under DFO; passport processing will be limited to emergency and humanitarian situations; RCMP services will be reduced not at the street level but to some of the other operations provided by civilian employees; some Indigenous services may be delayed.

The strike includes about 35,000 employees of the Canada Revenue Agency but the tax filing deadline will not be pushed back.

Tax returns, especially if filed by regular mail, could be delayed, and the child benefits will continue to be paid and other benefits will be paid depending on priority.

Many government departments will experience delays in services where payments are involved, such as Veterans Affairs.
