The Labrador Winter Games is a month away and the coordinators in Nain, Hopedale Makkovik and Rigolet are busy with practices and fundraising.

Kelly Edmunds is the Coordinator for Team Nain.

She says they have a new member on the team that will be competing in the duathlon at the games. Team Nain is still making it work with drills and practices at the school and the Jeremias Sillitt Community Center letting the public play with them sometimes.

Edmunds adds they have reached their budget goal and the team are grateful for those who helped, donated, and sponsored. Now Team Nain gets to focus more on practices.

For Team Makkovik, Gemma Andersen is the Coordinator.

She says practices are the same but the team are practicing indoor sports two or three times a week instead of one.

For fundraising, so far, they held bingo for the public.

Team members are selling tickets for a meal from Mary Brown’s with the ticket draw at 4pm today, they are also selling tickets for a drum of oil.

Andersen adds that there will be a bake sale next weekend.

For Team Hopedale, Susan Nochasak is the Coordinator.

She says the team are practicing three times a week at the Nanuk Community Centre following their own schedule.

She is grateful for the support from the community and the council for assisting in helping Team Hopedale get ready for the games.

With fundraising, they held a few events such as a mini fair, mini dart tournament, food sales, and ticket draws.

Nochasak would like to thank the kamatsiatet committee, who is their biggest sponsor and the team are very grateful for the support.

Tony Wolfrey is the Coordinator for Team Rigolet

Wolfrey said the team is almost full.

They will have another tryout for females to play in the Northern Games.

Team Rigolet is also doing the same practices.

Wolfrey says fundraising are doing good, they are selling tickets for a valentine’s basket, donations have been given to them as well.

Once they have the Valentine’s basket done, their fundraising should be complete.
