The First Annual Mark Dicker Memorial Ice Hockey Tournament took place last weekend.
We spoke with Sherry Dicker-Lidd, the mother of Late Mark Dicker and one of the organizers for the tournament.
The tournament was held from Thursday, February 2nd to February 5th of this year at the Nain Huskey Center.
Due to the high interest, all divisions couldn’t fit into one weekend schedule, so the organizers put the 12 and Under-age division play a day earlier.
For the 12 and Under division, Quinten’s team won against Buddy’s team. Team Gracie won against Nunatsiavut Annait for the Female Division.
On February 3rd and 4th, Team Justice League, Team Avengers, Team Redcats, Team Warriors, and Team NGC played together in six games, leading on to the first semifinals and the championship games on Sunday, February 5th.
On Sunday, the first semifinals were Team Warriors vs. Team Avengers, with the Warriors winning 13-3. The second semifinals were Justice League against the Redcats, with the Justice League taking the win of 8-6.
Team Redcats and Team Avengers played for the bronze medal game, with the Redcats take the win of 14-6. The championship game was played by Team Warriors vs. Team Justice League, and the Team Warriors being the champions with 2-1.
The awards ceremony hasn’t taken place yet but will be held once they get the trophy package in the mail.
She adds that they were winging the first tournament, and that there will be rules set for the next tournament.
Dicker-Lidd would like to thank everyone that was helping them in their late son’s tournament in anyway, especially to the referees, the recreation staff and everyone who came to watch, and hopes to see you all next year for the 2nd annual tournament.
