Dying and dead birds are being found in Newfoundland, this has been going on for the last two weeks.
Chris Mooney is the Interpretation Officer for at the St. Cape Mary’s Ecological Reserve.
He said testing has been underway to determine the root cause of the die-off, on Thursday he added he believes Avian Influenza is to blame.
Mooney has been working on the Reserve for 21 years and there has been no word, but the tests should come back soon.
He said he don’t know how long it takes to spread and hopefully it doesn’t spread too much and lose a lot of birds.
Mooney said its not good because we can’t do anything for them. We can just watch and count numbers, talk to the Canadian Wildlife Service and University’s biologist Bill Montevecchi and the head office. And Perter Corcoran said there are almost 300 counted.
He said some wash up on the beach and some come alive and die in ten minutes. He has lived in Port Lance for over 50 years and he has fished for 35 years and have never seen anything lie this.
Corcoran added they’ve seen murres and even puffins on the beach.
