It’s going to be a hot, muggy weekend in many parts of the province with warm temperatures in the daytime and balmy overnight lows. That combination doesn’t allow enough “cooling off” time, so it will feel quite a bit warmer than the temperature reading.
Rodney Barney, a meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, says humidex values will be in the thirties for many areas and, in some cases, in the high thirties.
Barney says heat warnings are currently in effect for the Happy Valley-Goose Bay area and a portion of the Labrador coast from Hopedale to Cartwright.
Heat warnings are also in effect on the island from Corner Brook across to Grand Falls-Windsor. Barney says those warnings could expand further to Gander and the northeast coast later this weekend.
Daytime temperatures in areas under heat warnings will be between 26 and 30 degrees this weekend.
