Another new case of COVID-19 in the province

There is another new case of COVID-19 in the province, again in central Newfoundland.

The person, a female under the age of 20, is a close contact with the man who tested positive yesterday. He is between 20 and 29 years of age and tested positive after returning to Newfoundland from Ontario.

Contact tracing is underway.

The provincial total is 264 and 22,710 people have been tested, to date.

The province has “relaxed rules” for rotational workers where they would be able to isolate with their families.

According to Dr. Fitzgerald, many of those workers come from a situation where they are basically isolating all the time which is hard on everybody involved.

The provincial government says maintaining physical distance from household members is not necessary unless they are symptomatic.

She says people may go out to play with their family while self-isolating and these are the risks individual families need to make decisions on.
