The Nunatsiavut Government’s Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism has been renamed Language, Culture and Tourism. The change, approved through an amendment to the Nunatsiavut Government Organization Order, was necessary to reflect a renewed emphasis on promoting, protecting and revitalizing Inuktitut, says the department’s minister, Jim Lyall.
“We are very excited with the name change,” says Minister Lyall. “We have been putting a lot of effort into our language over the past two years. The new name shows the commitment of our government in finding ways to ensure our language not only survives, but flourishes.”
