A Youth committee is being formed for Nunatsiavut beneficiaries.
This Youth Committee will be maintaining the Youth and Elder Gathering for the Co-Development of Culture and Language Revitalization Programming.
Right now there is no date set, and are in early planning stages.
Jessica Winters is the Youth Intern for Department of Health and Social Development.
Winter says they want youth from the ages of 15-30 years old to get involved, the location is yet to be determined.
She says they are still in a planning process and this is open to all Nunatsiavut communities and to the Canadian constituency.
Culture and Language revitalization was identified as one of the top priorities for youth in the 2019 Youth Strategy.
In response, the Department of Health and Social Development (DHSD) has begun planning a gathering for the co-development of culture and language programming.
It is our goal to bring together enthusiastic and involved youth and elders to develop programs that they would see fit in their communities.
We are in the early stages of this planning and would like youth input and guidance for the entire process.
We are asking for youth to express their interest in being a part of the planning committee for this gathering.
Duties of the planning committee include periodic teleconferences to discuss details of the gathering including: • Dates and location • Elders invite list• Speakers/presenters invite list• Activities/workshops • Accommodations and meals • any other suggestions/recommendations by you.
Winters says right now they need members from Hopedale, Nain and Rigolet.
Deadline to apply for this amazing opportunity is July 30th, 2019.
