On May 22, the Nain RCMP with assistance from the Happy Valley-Goose Bay General Investigation Section executed a search warrant on a local residence after receiving information that alcohol was being bootlegged.
Martin Merkuratsuk, a 30-year-old man from Nain, was arrested and charged with selling contraband alcoholic liquor pursuant to the Liquor Control Act and failure to comply with an undertaking.
Merkuratsuk was released from custody on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.
A large quantity of illegal alcohol was subsequently seized at a residence in the community.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information in relation to bootlegging in the community is asked to please call Nain RCMP at 709-922-2862.
