1st Annual Gussie Bennett Ball Hockey Tournament

The very 1st Annual Gussie Bennett Memorial Ball Hockey Tournament started Friday November 23-25, 2018 in Nain.

William Flowers was the organizer of the Tournament.

Flowers say with a good turnout of fans and supporters who came out for this special tournament.

Friends, family, teachers and classmates of Gussie came up to open the tournament with special guest mayor Joe Dicker who said some inspirational words of encouragement and of course the beautiful voices of Joan and Sam Dicker and Chaim Andersen singing of our Nunatsiavut anthem Labradorimiut.

They had a minute of silence for Gussie and a ceremonial ball drop Captain Deidre Barney of Teachers and captain of Torngat Mountains Jacob Dicker faced off with Gussie’s mom Katie Suarak doing the honour of officially opening the tournament.

Champions in the 12 and under division went to Team Gracie.

They won an exciting game that went to overtime and serenity Ivany got the game winner to claim the championship banner n trophy.

Most Sports minded team was the Hockey moms, most sportsmanlike player went to Teegan Michelin and the Top female player went to Serenity Ivany and the Most Valuable Player went to Samuel Flowers.

For the Adult Division the champs were Bad backs n broken bones.

Most sports minded team went to the Teachers team and the most sport minded player went to Kirsten Dicker and Top female went to Kirsten Dicker and the Most Valuable Player went to Michael Pijogge.
