26th Annual Youth Symposium

The Annual Youth Symposium will be held from July 11th to 15th, 2022.

The planning committee consists of staff and youth; Heather Angnatok – Regional Youth Administrator, Kayla Wyatt – Food and Environment Program Coordinator, Michael Mitsuk – Hopedale Youth Outreach, Joni Sillitt – Youth Worker, Nicolas Flowers – Youth and Ocean Pottle Shiwak – youth and Kim Oliver – Regional Youth Services Manager.

They roughly have 20 youth from within Nunatsiavut, Upper Lake Melville and the Canadian Constituency, and 1 elder from each community in Nunatsiavut, including Upper Lake Melville to attend.

They will also have Beverly Hunter who is the Elder Coordinator who will be assisting and planning with the team as well, along with a variety of guest speakers.

The Youth Symposium’s focus this year is Language and Culture.

They will have a land-based day and Joan Dicker will speak and present the Inuktitut sessions.

The Symposium had been previously delayed due to COVID-19 and the restrictions in place.

They look forward to meeting all the participants and to help create connections and memories, bring awareness on the importance of our language and culture, and keeping our traditions strong.
