Wellness Weekend (Audio)

In 2007 Nunatsiavut Department of Health and Social Development held the first Wellness Weekend at Gosling Lake in Happy Valley Goose Bay.

That Wellness Weekend was for people that are living an alcohol and drug free life.

Sophie Ford is the Aboriginal Affairs supervisor with Vale.

She says this year they held two retreats, one in August and one in October.

According to Ford, Wellness Weekend is for individuals who want to participate in a three day retreat.

The retreat involves groups in each community who teach participants how to live a healthier life style.

Ford says Vale is committed to respecting and understanding communities, and taking into account their cultural diversity.

She says this Wellness Weekend is for both Inuit and Innu cultures.

This retreat takes place at Gosling Lake and Iggiak.

We have also spoken with Evelyn Winter, the Resolution Help Support Worker with Nunatsiavut DHSD, and two participants that attended this weekend.
