Penashue Resigns (Audio)

In a surprising development, Labrador MP Peter Penashue has resigned.

According to Penashue, he resigned because of a pending report from Elections Canada that mentions that “illegitimate contributions” were made during his election campaign.

Penashue says that as a result he feels that the appropriate thing to do is resign and let the people of Labrador decide who they want representing them in Ottawa.

He has paid 30,000 dollars to the federal government for the ineligible expenses.

Penashue maintains that he had no prior knowledge of the campaign violations.

He adds that he is definitely running in a by-election when it is called.
