Labrador Winter Games Day 3: Makkovik Mines Badminton Gold (Audio)

Day 3 of the Labrador Winter Games saw a golden sweep for Team Makkovik as they powered their way through the competition at the badminton event yesterday.

Trent Pottle of Makkovik took home gold with Dominic Demers of Happy Valley-Goose Bay claiming silver.

Team North West River’s Rory Blake rounded out the top three with a bronze finish.

In the women’s division it was Makkovik’s Holly Andersen claiming gold, followed by Sarah Karpik of Nain settling for silver.

Dalina Blake of Northwest River captured the bronze.

In the Mixed doubles event it was Makkovik’s Trent Pottle and Holly Andersen claiming gold followed by North West River’s Dalina Blake and Rory Blake settling for silver.

Rounding out the top three were Erica Oberndorfer and Dominic Demers.

The cross country Skiing was also held yesterday at Birch Brook Ski club.

In the 10KM ski for women it was Rhonda Lawrence from Wabush winning the gold medal.

Kathy Jong from Happy Valley Goose Bay claimed the silver medal.

Mckayla Hudson from Labrador City took the bronze.

For the 20KM for men it was Alf Parsons of Labrador City coming in first place followed by Rick Kennedy of Happy Valley Goose Bay and Edward Flowers of Nain.

As of day 3, Team Nain sits in 4th place in the standings with 110 points and Team Makkovik in 5th with 100 points.

Day 4 of the games has Volleyball, X-country skiing relay racing, the Snowshoe Biathlon, and tonight is the Northern Games.

The semi finals are set in volleyball with Makkovik taking on Hopedale and Nain battling North West River.

Winners of the Semis move on to face each other in the Finals.
