Radio 99.9FM

The primary target for our radio programming is the Inuit in our region. Our secondary audience consists of non-natives who live in our target area.

Current Programming

The Society produces 20 hours per week as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

1:00 – 3:00 pm: AtjiKangitut (Nothing like it)

Daily newscasts and current affairs item interviews, Inuktitut and English music, current weather and vessel reports, public service announcements, music requests and dedications.

Monday

3:00 – 4:00 pm: Labrador Memories

Stories of the past from Labradorians, young and old, in English.

Tuesday

3:00 – 4:00 pm: IlinniaKatigennik (Learning Together)

Inuktitut language program featuring, language lessons, recipes, stories and contests.

Wednesday

1:00 – 3:00 pm: PiusituKavut (Our Way of Life)

An Inuktitut only program. The content is cultural and/or current information.

3:00 – 4:00 pm Sugusivut (Our Children)

A light-hearted children’s program featuring kid’s songs and recordings of children in Nunatsiavut.

Thursday

3:00 – 4:00 pm: Teen Rockers

A blend of youth oriented music, interviews, and contests. Youth from the community are involved with the production and hosting of this program whenever possible.

Friday

3:00 – 4:00 pm: Country Music Hour

Country music, requests, messages, dedications, and contests.

Sunday

10:00 – 11:00 am Inuktitut Moravian Church Service broadcasts live from Nain

On special occasions such as Advent, Christmas, and Easter, certain services are aired in both languages.

11:00 – 11:30 am: Easy Listening Music

11:30 am: Carl Sonnichsen’s Sermons

1:00 – 4:00 pm: Sunday Program (Mostly Music and Requests)

The Society occasionally features phone-in programming with special guests (in studio or via telephone) discussing social and political issues with our radio audience. The Society has the CBC North radio “wrap around” feed from Iqaluit. This provides additional Inuktitut content for our listeners.
