Makivik Corporation held its election for a President on Thursday, January 18, 2018.
Five Nunavik Inuit were nominated for the President Position.
Here are the results after the voting closed:
Charlie Watt of kuudjuaq is the new president of Makivik Corporation.
Watt is one of the original founders of the corporation.
He received a total of 2045 votes.
Finishing in second place was the incumbent president, Jobie Tukkiapik, who is also from kuudjuaq.
Tukkiapik received a total of 1248 votes.
They were followed by Lucy Grey of kangitsuk, with 232 votes, Alasie Arngnak of kangiqsujuaq, with 164 votes, and Jackie Williams of Inukjuaq, who captured 102 votes.
The total number of eligible voters was 8125.
3814 people came out to vote in the election.
