St. John’s Candle Light Service Going Ahead

The Annual Candle Light Service will go ahead again this year in St. John’s, NL.

This tradition was started about 25 years ago by the late Reverend Bridgette Schloss.

Patricia Ford is originally from Nain, and lives in St. John’s.

She says Schloss carried the tradition with her when she moved to the city.

The very first one was held in Pat’s apartment back then, and was carried on for a couple more years.

Everyone is given an apple with a lighted candle.

She says the Candle Light Service will be held on Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24 at 2 pm, at St. Mary’s Church.

Ford says there is always a good turnout at this service, and everyone is welcome to the Moravian Church Service at St. Mary’s Church.

Father John Courage will hold the service again this year, even though he recently retired from his work.
